Gender and postapartheid issues - Power relations and there effects on south africa today

South Africa 17 years after the abolishment of apartheid: Control and domination still exists in today's South Africa although it is built on a progressive constitution. What changes in gender politics have there been in the past seventeen years? What legal protection do members of the South African LGBT*I community have? What concrete effects does it have on there every day life? And what is the role of civil organisations with regard to the fight against gender- and sex specific violence and hate crimes?

In this workshop we will discuss these and similar questions. Members of the NFJ Berlin who visited Cape Town/South Africa in October 2010 will guide us through the workshop. We will read one of our articles (you'll find in the reader) and look through flyers and brochures of organizations which we met there. The workshop is open for everyone also for those with more background knowledge.
